Karen Ellingson Trueheart
We are sad to have lost our Board President, Karen Trueheart, on September 2, 2012. Here is a small taste of who she was:
Karen Ellingson Trueheart trained in Integral Counseling and East-West Psychology, Karen was a Spiritual Counselor and Contemplative Practice Teacher in Rochester, NY. She founded Heartprints for Humanity, a public awareness and education project based on psychological, spiritual and Gandhian principles for developing skills for living in a more compassionate, sustainable world. Among her writings and films are Remembering King, A Video Tribute, the CDs Overcoming Differences with The 14th Dalai Lama, and The Sagan-Dalai Lama Interview as well as the article “The Heartprint Effect: Changing the Emotional Climate within Ourselves and the World.”
Karen served on the faculty of the California Institute for Integral Studies, a graduate school in San Francisco where she was also Director of the Center for Psychological and Spiritual Health. She taught at the Center for Spirituality and Psychotherapy in NYC and served on the board of the Association for Spirituality and Psychotherapy.
In Rochester her community service included the Board of United Neighborhood Centers of Greater Rochester, a project of the United Way and The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
Karen had deep roots in Rochester where both her father and grandfather were presidents of Rochester Institute of Technology. She lived with her husband of 42 years Harry Trueheart, who is Chairman of the Nixon Peabody Law Firm. Their son, Eric, writes and performs in Los Angeles. Their daughter, Kate, is an Acupuncturist and Physician’s Assistant in Salt Lake, where she lives with her husband and four children.
